Freiburg joins SHiP

The Astroparticle Physics Group at the University of Freiburg joins the SHiP Experiment at CERN.

SHiP at the planned Beam Dump Facility (BDF) at CERN is a future experiment to search for Hidden Sector particles to shed light on important question such as dark matter, neutrino oscillations and the baryon asymmetry of the Universe.

SHiP will be a forward spectrometer of ~150m length. One of its central components is the ~50m long decay volume. It's wall are part of the Surround Background Tagger (SBT), a liquid scintillator-filled detector to veto events induced by interactions (e.g., from muons) in the decay volume walls which might mimick signal signatures.

The Freiburg team will contribute to the design and development of the SBT, focusing on mechanics, electronics as well as reconstruction algorithms.

More information on SHiP can be found here.
